Are you cool?
Action on Smoking and Health reports tobacco use kills 4.9 million people annually, and that this figure is expected to double in the next 20 years. The World Health Organization stressed that tobacco kills 1 person every 6.5 second.

Governments are taking steps to prevent tabacco companies targeting youth in their marketing campaigns: Brown & Williamson's use of a hip-hop theme to promote Kool cigarettes, including special packs with images of DJs and dancers, has drawn fire from critics who say the smokes target black youths. Maryland has filed a lawsuit against the maker of Kool cigarettes. Remarkable: 'The Responsible Company in a Controversial Industry' has a Youth Smoking Prevention Center.

Is Kool really cool?

Photo: Brown & Williamson officials said ads for the hip-hop packs appeared only in magazines aimed at young adults.

Now that they also lose ground in the racing circus, the tabacco industry is forced to be innovative. A shift to 'lifestyle' viral marketing is obvious. The film industry is lurking: does the R-rated movie card give tabacco companies a 'free ride'?
