Fonk for Thoughts: Lionel Goldstein
Lionel Goldstein, a two headed creative monster born in Lapland. Time for Fonk for Thoughts...
Photo Koen Mortier (left) and Joe Vanhoutteghem aka Lionel Goldstein: 'Don't make commercials for products.' BlogFonk: Who is Lionel Goldstein? Where are you from? Goldstein: Lionel Goldstein is a two headed monster that feeds himself with sadness and happiness. He's born in Lapland, but after his mother gave him a lap against his heads he left for the country of milk and mud: Belgium. BlogFonk: Do you love your work? Goldstein: His lazy character really resents to work, but after a committed crime the judge punished him for ten years of directing commercials. This was seen as the hardest sentence a monster possible could get because of being just what he was: a monster. BlogFonk: What really moves or drives Lionel Goldstein? Goldstein: Because of it's gigantic weight Lionel just bought a truck, but the heads didn't seem to get an agreement on the colour, so it just sold the vehicle and now it just moves by feet or by public traffic. BlogFonk: Is there difference in mentality of creatives in the countries you've worked? Goldstein: They are all been eaten or burned down by the monster and actually they almost taste the same. It has to be said that Americans have a typical fat taste, while the French seem to have some whine flavor. The Belgians how ever are more chewy and have a kind of sour back taste. BlogFonk: What are the latest important developments you've noticed in advertising? Goldstein: Since the Belgium government decided that directing commercials was a punishment that wouldn't be accepted by the laws of the European government and that they would be ejected as an active member of the European community, I saw an exodus. Since then, we're the only condemned director left. The other ones are volunteers. BlogFonk: Which project are you most proud of? Goldstein: The one that nobody saw. It was a project for the Belgian Institute of Blind People. BlogFonk: If you'd be given the chance to do something over again, what would that be? Goldstein: I wouldn't be that aggressive towards my mother. BlogFonk: Finally, what is your motto, your 'Fonk for Thoughts' (inspiration to be creative)? Goldstein: Don't make commercials for products. |
