The Brooklyn Standard newspaper?
Well, it looks like a newspaper. Doesn't it?
![]() The Brooklyn Standard: "A Forest City Ratner Publication". According to the NY Times this newspaper-shaped thing is focused on Brooklyn, printing the word Brooklyn 17 times on its front page, a display of loyalty with lines like "Manhattan faces and eyes forever for me." Some believe The Brooklyn Standard isn't actually a real newspaper, but more a promotional tool, posing as a community newspaper. They say the purpose of the publication is to promote a $3.5 billion real estate project by creating the impression that the community are in support of the project. June 2005, a group of Brooklyn clergy published a newspaper bashing the proposed downtown Brooklyn Nets arena complex. Developer Bruce Ratner hitted back with his very own new newspaper: The Brooklyn Standard, a glossy 16-page tabloid with information about the project. Some Brooklynites use The Brooklyn Standard to line their hamster cages and use it as "brown matter" for composting bins... |
