Remember webisodes? Original minishows for the Internet were all the rage online before the Internet bubble burst in 2001. Now they're back, as advertising!
Webisodes are a clear sign that advertisers are increasingly desperate to find creative ways to reach savvy consumers, who now can control what ad messages reach them through digital-video recorders that allow them to skip TV commercials. Jeep collaborated with San Francisco-based ad agency Organic to create a similarly product-focused plot with its "We Are the Mudds" webisodes to market the 2006 Jeep Commander. ![]() Jeep's "We Are the Mudds": click on image. Mercury's "Meet the Lucky Ones" online film is still playing at www.meettheluckyones.com and follows a quirky family to promote the Mariner sport-utility vehicle. ![]() Mercury's "Meet the Lucky Ones": click on image. In the animated "Sprays of Her Life" on www.tasteyoulove.com, for instance, the heroine is a feisty brick house named Spraychel (a bottle of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray) and her nemesis is Buttricia (butter). ![]() ICBINB!'s "Sprays of Her Life": click on image. Can you resist these webisodes? |
