Hello?
Searching for an 'answer' from Google...
The previous BlogFonk-item about Picasa ended with the question what Google's next step will be. 'Hello' is the answer. Hello is a new program that lets you connect directly with your friends to share your digital pictures. You get to see your photographs together with your friends online. You don't have to wait for huge email attachments to download or upload your pictures to a public website. Just point at a picture and you can tell the person who sent it exactly what you think. With just one click, you can get the original high-quality, full-sized file to print.
Photo: New Blogger picture tools. Hello is free .When you use Hello and Picasa together, your received images will instantly appear in your Picasa folders. Hello also lets you publish pictures to your Blogger blog: just use Hello to send your pictures to BloggerBot. Google's Picasa
What is this?
According to MediaPost Google acquired Picasa, a digital photo management company, which has previously announced a partnership with Google's Blogger service aiming to improve the quality of Blogger's photo-publishing features. Last year, Google entered the blogging arena after acquiring Pyra Labs, which created the Blogger service.
Photo: Picasa 1.6 is free! Picasa 1.6 can be downloaded for free, which causes a dramatic rise in the number of visitors to Picasa's website. When Google placed a link to Picasa on the Google UK homepage on July 16th 2004, Picasa experienced a staggering 6,000% increase in visits among UK sites, according to NetImperative. Launching a new service this way surely works! It shows that Picasa (derived from Picasso?) is Google's latest step in bolstering 'the blogging experience'. BlogFonk uses FeedBurner
Feedburner?
Today, BlogFonk starts using FeedBurner's SmartFeed. Use this feed (or click on the FeedBurner XML-button above the BlogFonk search toolbar) in your newsreader to stay updated with BlogFonk. Why SmartFeed? SmartFeed makes sure any of the supported readers receives the most appropriate format for its own use. Therefore, if you publish an Atom feed now (e.g., through Blogger), anyone using a client that can't handle Atom will receive an RSS-formatted feed through Smartfeed. There is no need to publish the original and the SmartFeed, since that would be redundant. [Edited on August 6, 2004] BlogFonk is working on some changes. The BlogFonk's Feedburner-feed has changed. The correct URL is now: http://feeds.feedburner.com/fonkstra/ocLCxml Use this URL in your newsreader to stay updated with BlogFonk via XML. posted by BlogFonk: Tuesday, July 20, 2004 [#]
IKEA's gospel
IKEA is actually not only focussing on big things...
IKEA continues to preach its 'sacred concept' gospel. Founder Ingvar Kamprad: It is our duty to expand. Those who cannot or will not join us are to be pitied. What we want to do, we can do and will do, together. A glorious future! Some figures: - Last year, 310 million people visited Ikea worldwide. - On some Sundays in Britain, according to one estimate, almost twice as many people visit a branch as attend church. - It has been calculated that 10% of Europeans currently alive were conceived in one of Ikea's beds. - By the end of August 2004, the company will have opened new stores, this year alone, in Amsterdam and Lisbon, in Moscow (the city's third Ikea) and in Kazan, the capital of the former Soviet republic of Tatarstan; in Seville, in Mannheim, in the Swedish city of Gothenburg, and in Naples; in Bloomington, Minneapolis; in Philadelphia, and in upstate New York. IKEA is actually not only focussing on big things.

Starck PUMA
Ed Mae Cooper wrote about Philippe Starck:
Starck recalls spending his childhood underneath his father's drawing boards; hours spent sawing, cutting, gluing, sanding, dismantling bikes, motor cycles and other objects [...] Several years and several prototypes later, the Italians have made him responsible for our furniture, President Mitterand asked him to change life at the Elysees Palace, the Cafe Costes has become Le Cafe, he has turned the Royalton and Paramount in New York into the new classics of the hotel world and scattered Japan with architectural tours de force that have made him the leading exponent of expressionist architecture. Starcks' latest project with PUMA is great!

Molson helps making 'friends'!
Beer is fashion. When you hold a beer, you're paying it the ultimate compliment. You like what it says about you. And since a beer can say so much about you, why not let it say anything?
Within this context ad agency Crispin, Porter & Bogusky (CPB) repackaged every bottle of Molson Canadian with a second 'twin' label that lets you tell others all the things that are not always easy to weave into casual conversation. So far, they have produced 232 twin labels that Molson drinkers can put to work for them.

Are you cool?
Action on Smoking and Health reports tobacco use kills 4.9 million people annually, and that this figure is expected to double in the next 20 years. The World Health Organization stressed that tobacco kills 1 person every 6.5 second.
Governments are taking steps to prevent tabacco companies targeting youth in their marketing campaigns: Brown & Williamson's use of a hip-hop theme to promote Kool cigarettes, including special packs with images of DJs and dancers, has drawn fire from critics who say the smokes target black youths. Maryland has filed a lawsuit against the maker of Kool cigarettes. Remarkable: 'The Responsible Company in a Controversial Industry' has a Youth Smoking Prevention Center.
Photo: Brown & Williamson officials said ads for the hip-hop packs appeared only in magazines aimed at young adults. Now that they also lose ground in the racing circus, the tabacco industry is forced to be innovative. A shift to 'lifestyle' viral marketing is obvious. DDB London's 'Dog Day Afternoon'
In Cannes International Advertising Festival, 2004, DDB London picked up five coveted Cannes Lions including the prestigious Press Grand Prix for their 'Cops' commercial for Volkswagen's Polo. 'Cops' was also awarded a Gold Lion in the Outdoor Category. This is DDB London's third Grand Prix, the first for Coty in 1978, the second for Volkswagen in 1988 and now the third in 2004 also for Volkswagen.
The award winning commercial was created by Dylan Harrison, Feargal Ballance, Nick Allsop and Simon Veksner. Creative Dylan Harrison commented: 'We have been surprised at the success of the ad as it was such fun to make, it didn't feel like work. The idea began as an idle joke that cropped up when looking for the 'real' solution to the brief. And therein lies the strength to the ad. It's simple, it works and it's fun. It doesn't feel like your average car ad, it's unexpected.'

Political web ads
The US presidential elections 2004 show that controversial ads are shown on the internet rather than on TV. The form and character of web ads make them perfect instruments for pronounced political campaigns: moreover, they are not limited to the usual 30 seconds of television or radio message.
According to Lexington Herald-Leader the video, called 'Kerry's Coalition of the Wild-Eyed', is available only at www.georgewbush.com. It features rabid denunciations of President Bush from Democratic stalwarts Al Gore, Howard Dean and Dick Gephardt. It shows likely Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry shouting that Bush will 'kick your ass and tell you there is no promised land.' It even includes clips of an ad from MoveOn.org, a group working to defeat Bush, comparing Bush to Hitler and Bush's foreign policy to the war crimes of the Third Reich. At www.johnkerry.com, Web-only videos include one mocking a truculent young Bush's apparent inability to perform basic math. And at www.gop.com, the Republican National Committee's Web site, you can play 'Kerryopoly' and see pictures of the wealthy Massachusetts senator's holdings (most of which are actually owned by his wife and predate their marriage). Are these web ads contributing to a real debate on political choices? posted by BlogFonk: Tuesday, July 06, 2004 [#]
